On an almost unrelated note, I recommend you watch this flash series provided in the [link] you just read past.
I agree with Roger and his friend's analysis of Sonic character (and the rest of the cast-- I'd never quite thought about it that way!). The thing is, when I started writing GOTF I made the (sometimes regrettable) decision to try to incorporate as much of the game canon as I could... and if I don't bring up something, it should at least be compatible (so far the only thing I've completely tossed out is "Shadow the Hedgehog"). And then I have to try to make it GOOD (from my perspective). That's why I said GOTF Sonic is out of touch with his emotions-- it's the only explanation (barring him being a sociopath)for Sonic's behavior in many games. So I'm trying to extend this trait into a character flaw that will get him in trouble, much like how STC Sonic is snarky to the point of cruelty. From a story perspective, I'm just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.
I hope that makes a little more sense than what I was saying before. Thanks again for sending me those videos-- I'm going to try to implement some of their ideas in my storytelling!
